Anita Ekberg
Kerstin
Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 1 January
2015) was an actress from Sweden, most well-known for her stunning body and
stunning beauty. Her iconic role of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce
Vita (1960) was a major hit. Ekberg primarily worked in Italy where she became
a permanent residence in 1964. Anita Ekberg was the eighth child in a family of
eight. As a teenager, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg was a participant
in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 on the advice of her mother. The result
was that she won the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she spoke very little
English and a little Swedish, she traveled to the United States to compete for
the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in the year 1951, the
pageant became official in 1952). While Ekberg was not the winner of the Miss
Universe pageant, as one of the six finalists she did get an actress' contract
with Universal Studios. Ekberg was a Universal Starlet, where she learned
dance, drama, and elocution. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi
Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as an actress on Venus), Take Me to Town
(1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
