Don Rickles Biography

 Don Rickles was an American comedian and author. He also performed as an actor. He was an entertainer who is highly respected. He had a mix of humor and quick wit, as well as his genuine love for his audience, that led to him becoming an ideal source of laughter, enjoyment and entertainment. His ability to make insults sound humorous and not offensive was what made him a frequent participant on the celebrity roast circuits. His crude and hurtful insults were a source of ridicule, but the recipient would always be laughing. While he began as a typical comedian with rehearsed jokes in mind, he quickly realized that his impromptu remarks were much more appreciated than the prewritten material. He was a favorite of many among them Frank Sinatra. He also appeared in several TV and film productions. He also produced two comedy albums. He was awarded many awards like a Lifetime Achievement' award at The Comedy Awards. His style of comedy that incorporated insinuations has earned him many nicknames, such as "The Merchant of Venom", 'The Insultan' 'Mr. Don Rickles was only able to land small television roles after his graduation. To earn a living Rickles started doing stand-up comedy. He eventually became known as an 'insult comedian'. The 1970s began with a very important role in the hit movie 'Kelly's Heroes' (1970) in which he starred Clint Eastwood. He also appeared on television comedy shows like "The Don Rickles' (1972) or "The Dean Martin Roasts" (1973). Don Rickles married Barbara Sklar on March 14, 1965. They had two children including daughter Mindy and son Larry. Their son passed away on December 31, 2011. Bob Newhart was his best friend, and he frequently went on vacations with his wife. They were a couple who appeared on many television shows together, such as 'Newhart'. Don Rickles was also a good acquaintance of Bob Newhart and they frequently vacationed together in California.
