Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. Her family moved abroad when she was only three years old. Summer attended British as well as American schools during the time her family moved abroad. She returned to her home town of Pasadena just shy of her birthday of 14. Summer was infatuated with the idea that she would be an actor since she was five of her life began her first acting class when she was 14. Nine months after that, she signed with an agent/manager and embarked on a full-time work. In her spare time, she studies at a college and studying for her degree. One of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominee for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil started acting lessons at age 14. Within one year, she was contracted to an agency and manager. Bishil's first performance was in the brief-lived Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances in several other children's shows.Bishil's breakthrough performance came as the lead actress in Alan Ball's film Towelhead in 2007, which was a re-telling of the novel of the same name. Dana Stevens, a Slate critic, stated that "Her performance in a movie which, for all its good intentions feels thoroughly phony as well as embarrassing and like an extended PSA about inappropriate touching is the most truthful thing." Bob Strauss, who writes for several Los Angeles newspapers, states that Bishil, "...is one among the top natural actors to come out in years." Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the movie Towelhead and stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a gutsy, quietly riveting performance in the role of Jasira. "In 2009, she made Wayne Kramer's new project, Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd, a portrayal which received some praise from Associated Press's Jay Reiner. She was in the role of Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel was never made.
